IOM Met & Southern District Championship, Race3  
Three Rivers RYC, 27th April, 2008

Fifteen determined skippers endured a day of sunny spells, thunder, lightning and heavy rain.  To add to the difficulties the wind direction and strength were erratic, more often a southerly blowing over the top of the trees to give a light, fluky wind with lots of holes or occasionally a more friendly breeze straight down the lake from the south west. 

OOD John Male set a port rounding course comprising a triangle and a sausage with the option of shortening the course to just the triangle when the wind dropped.  Using HMS 2007 the racing consisted of 9 boats in the B Heat and 10 boats in the A Heat.  With 4 boats being promoted from B Heat there was a good chance that most of the skippers would find themselves in A Heat for at least one race during the day.  

By lunch four races had been completed with Trevor Binks (Eastbourne) sharing first place with Keith Tyson (Eastbourne) closely followed by two skippers from Hampton Court, Dave Andrews and Dennis Moss. 

Unfortunately the predicted strengthening wind from the south west did not materialize until the very last race of the day so most of the sailing was contested using the shortened course.  In all 8 races were completed with the eventual winner being Trevor Binks who sailed consistently throughout the day and thoroughly deserved his success.  Generally the standard of racing was very good with incidents being resolved quickly and amicably on the water.  Many thanks to Ian Mackenzie and John Carter for their help in judging the start and finishing lines.
